Throughout my research process, I discovered an initiative called, “Healthier Campus Initiative.” The initiative is led by Partnership for a Healthier America, also known as PHA. The goal is for campuses nationwide to partner with PHA and follow the guidelines of the initiative. I found this article and initiation to be particularly applicable to my blog and my goals for a healthier college diet. While the initiative needs to be taken on by the university, I could see Washington State partnering with PHA. The goals of the initiative are to provide healthier alternatives for students. Including healthier food alternatives, and exercise involvement. The initiative’s mission is the following, “Give choice – Colleges and universities can choose which guidelines they want to complete; Acknowledge progress made – Guidelines were created to give credit for existing campus wellness efforts as well as to challenge colleges and universities to do more; and Allow flexibility – Colleges and universities choose guidelines upon joining the initiative, but have until the end of the three-year commitment to fully implement them.” (https://www.ahealthieramerica.org/documents/44)
This could be something that WSU could get involved in, I think steps like these would be influential in creating a healthier atmosphere for college students. This topic is something that directly correlates to my blog theme and an initiative that could make a big difference in the college norm.
