W6: The Interview

An interview with Keeley Skone.

Keeley gave me her input on how to eat a healthy diet while being a student in college.

I asked her, “how [does she] eat a balanced diet while being a student?”

“Eating a healthy, balanced diet for me looks like eating regularly. I don’t skip meals in order to have a massive meal at the end of the day. Eating in spontaneity is when our bodies get confused. I know that my body is used to a routine, having 3 meals at set times is crucial to maintaining balance.”

I found this point to be interesting because I know for myself it is hard to find a routine when my classes are different. In which case I will usually skip breakfast and just consume a large lunch. I then asked her, “What do you do when you get hungry during the breaks between meals?”

Keeley responded, “Snacking is okay. And not many people are aware of that. The common issue is people turn snacking into eating, and the purpose of a snack is to tie you over not fill you up.”

I know how hard it is to stop myself from turning “snacking into eating” when I start snacking, so I asked her “[if there was] any recommendations to limit the amount of snacks [you] consume.

“I recommend using bowls instead of eating the snacks directly from the bag or pouch. Then put the bag of whatever snack away, and you will ideally stop from going back and getting more because that would require ‘more work.'”

Thank you for taking the time to answer these questions, I feel like these were the struggles I dealt with when I first came to college and had I known how simple it was to balance my diet I would like to think I would have.
