W3: A Reflection on Civic Engagement and Giving Back

What you learned while working with the Community Action Center:

I learned about the Community Action Center’s influence on Pullman, I had never heard about it prior to this class and I have been VP of Community Relations for 2 semesters in my greek organization. I was unaware of the opportunities to volunteer there, and now I can pass on the information to my successor.

Ways you can use your talents for Civic Engagement Work:

I never had any classes where I was able to get community service hours through my classwork. I usually complete community service hours at the humane society or at places like Orphan Acres. I really enjoyed being able to apply my schooling and my academic passion to other areas in my life like my passion for philanthropy and community outreach.

How your topic relates/could incorporate Civic Engagement:

My topic could relate to Civic Engagement in the fact that I am providing free information for students to learn how to eat healthy. I am doing the research and there is no charge for students or other people to read my blog and learn about my topic. However, it could incorporate Civic Engagement in a larger scheme in which a class could be taught at a place like the CAC which teaches people that eating healthy doesn’t mean you need to break the bank.

Overall I really enjoyed the opportunity to work for the Community Action Center in creating a campaign that they might be able to glean off of for their event.
